Caregivers
The Caregiver program allows international individuals to immigrate to Canada and work as Caregivers. The caregiver program has an annual quota of 5,500 total applications, and it allows qualified caregivers to come to Canada with their family members with the goal to become permanent residents.
As a caregiver, you can choose between two caregiver pilots: either Home Child Care Provider Pilot (HCCP) or Home Support Worker Pilot (HSWP). Both caregiver pilots are of a 5-year duration.
Eligibility Criteria for Caregiver Pilot Program
You must meet the following criteria for a work permit under Caregiver Pilot Program.
- a valid full-time job offer from a Canadian employer.
- experience in the same occupation (HCCP or HSWP).
- Language level: CLB 5 in English/French in all four areas.
- one year of post-secondary education in Canada or equivalent foreign education.
- be admissible to Canada.
- If your eligible family members want to work or study in Canada, work permit or study permit applications should be included in your application
Application Process
- Candidates will be scrutinized for the permanent residence application before applying for the work permit under Caregiver Pilot Program.
- You then have to submit your and your family members’ work permit and permanent residence application at a time.
- It may take 10 to 12 months for your work permit applications to be approved while your PR applications will be held until you work for 2 years with the Canadian employer(s).
